Pte is an online test that assesses your practical English abilities in academic and professional contexts. This examination is segmented into three parts, each focusing on different language abilities.
- Speaking & Writing (77–93 minutes): The Speaking and writing test evaluates your ability to speak fluently and write clearly in English. You’ll be asked to introduce yourself, read aloud, repeat sentences, describe images, summarize written texts, and write essays.
- Reading (32–41 minutes): This section tests your reading ability and your ability to read academic material. Activities include multiple choice questions, paragraph ordering, and fill-in-the-blanks based on context.
- Listening (45–57 minutes): The final section tests your understanding of spoken English for work or academic use. You will have to listen to audio recordings and complete questions, summarize audio texts, and fill in missing information.
The overall examination duration spans between two and a half to three hours, though the time depends on how each segment performs. The test delivers quick results because AI scoring operates efficiently to generate your results.
The Pte test has a scoring system that ranges from 10 to 90 for the comprehensive test. An overall score is calculated based on a weighted sum of four section scores reflecting your overall English proficiency.
Most universities, colleges, and professional organizations accept PTE Academic 58 and above as sufficient evidence of acceptable English proficiency for admission, job, or visa requirements.
